Office Equipment and Safety Concerns

!±8± Office Equipment and Safety Concerns

Offices are relatively safe work environments in comparison to factories, warehouses and other workplaces where one typically considers danger risks. However, there are some health and safety precautions to be taken around office equipment. Most of these are common sense concerns, but many employers and employees do not take the time to prevent potential injuries or disasters from occurring.

It is beneficial to both employers and employees to be mindful of potential office hazards. As an employer, you do not want to be liable for workman's compensation claims or lawsuits. You also will want your employees to be as productive as possible rather than being injured so that they will miss work or be unproductive. You also will not want to have to pay extra money through any employer provided assistance programs you offer. Therefore, when you purchase or install new office equipment, take into consideration any potential health and safety hazards.

The most common health concern related to office equipment is long term overuse injuries and conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and eye strain. These result from using computers and other equipment repetitively. Overuse injuries can affect the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders and back. There are ways to minimize these risks, such as encouraging stretching and eye exercises as well as investing in ergonomic equipment. Take some time to look into prevention of overuse injuries related to office equipment.

Some of the actual hazards in the office relate to equipment that is either not maintained properly or is not installed safely. Take time to check your office equipment regularly to make sure it is in safe condition. For example, desk chairs often have screws underneath the seats, connecting the seat to the base. After some use, especially in swiveling chairs, these screws can become loose and even fall off, causing the chair to swivel around, come off of the base, and dump the user on the floor. This is an easy injury to prevent with a little regular attention. Other related injuries can result from purchasing equipment that is less than safe in the first place. Sometimes, chairs are not built sturdily and may not be best for all body heights and weights. Sometimes, the back of a chair can lean back too far, causing the entire chair to tip backward. Make sure you try out any chairs that you purchase and tell your employees to familiarize themselves with potential concerns. Also make sure that any folding equipment, such as tables and chairs, are locked so they do not collapse or unfold suddenly.

One major office concern that many people do not think of is the risk of heavy equipment and furniture, such as filing cabinets, falling in the event of an earthquake or any event that causes instability. In order to prevent shelving and cabinets from toppling over, it is important to secure them to the wall by use of screws. While convenient, rolling file cabinets can also be a hazard in an earthquake.

Another concern is machines where body parts can become stuck or injured, such as copy machines, printers, fax machines and scanners. Employees should be notified of the risks of having long hair and loose clothing around these machines since it can easily become caught, injuring the whole person. Employers should make sure everyone in the office knows how to safely turn off all equipment in the event of an emergency. A similar concern is the possibility of hands and fingers being smashed by the lids of copy machines and scanners. Be sure to warn employees of these concerns.

What to Do When Your Scanner is Broken

!±8± What to Do When Your Scanner is Broken

Getting a scanner is a fun thing to do. It undoubtedly is something you have been thinking about for a while as such items are not the most common purchases to make. When you make your purchase, it is important to think ahead a bit. Remember to keep your receipt, user manual and any other relevant information to ensure that you will have the necessary information at your disposal when and if your scanner breaks.

Which leads to the main point of this article: what should you do when your scanner breaks? If you have the user manual, refer to that first. Many people do not bother to keep user manuals after they make purchases. This is unfortunate, but there are still solutions for such mistakes. Usually, the manufacturer provides product user manuals on their websites. Refer to the user manual online to see if it is a problem you might be able to fix yourself.

Not all problems can be fixed with the use of a user manual alone. That is why it is also a good idea to double check the warranty information. It is possible that you are still within the guarantee period that was given when you first purchased your scanner. Check with not only the manufacturer, but also the retailer from whom you purchased your equipment from. Their guarantees are not necessarily always the same which is why it is a good idea to check both. Of course, if your warranty has expired, the last thing for you to do is to take it to get repaired. More often than not, repairs cost less than purchasing a new scanner, which is why it is the smartest thing to do in this situation. If you follow these tips when your scanner breaks, it will help you to know what to do in case of such an unfortunate incident.

Radio - The Best Weather Radios

!±8± Radio - The Best Weather Radios

First, is the Etón FR360, an emergency crank radio. This radio can be powered by four different sources, including its own crank-driven internal generator which charges the internal Ni-MH batteries. It will also run on standard AA batteries and on a USB power adapter, though that must be purchased separately. The Ni-MH batteries can also be charged with solar power, which is the fourth power source. This is the only radio with a 'can't fail' emergency lifeline in the event of a natural or other disaster. It has a built-in LED flashlight, USB cell phone charger and flashing white and red beacon and it will receive both AM (520-1710KHz) and FM (87-108MHz) standard radio broadcasts, as well as those from the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), all 7 channels. The down side of this radio is that it does not utilize SAME (Specific Area Message Encoding) technology that allows you to program a code or codes that will only alert you to your local areas or those you wish to hear, such as a family member's locale.

This radio has been highly rated by consumers through Amazon and Cabela's and is also available through the Red Cross and Grundig. If you subscribe to text alerts for local weather warnings on your cell phone, it may well be the only radio you will need in an emergency. The mid-range pricing on this radio is around and can be found at some retailers for as low as .50.

The best weather radio overall is the Midland® WR-300. This unit is powered with the AC adapter, which is included, or by 4-AA batteries, which are not included. It has SAME technology, which allows you to program 23 counties, giving you complete control over the weather alerts that you receive. All hazard alerts are color-coded to be easily recognized, and are displayed on the blue backlit LCD screen. The LCD screen has a continuous backlight option. Equipped with an alarm clock with a snooze button, AM/FM tuning, the date and time, 7 preset weather channels and an automatic switch from AM/FM to the pertinent hazard alert, this radio is an all-in-one, attractive unit for your nightstand. Amazon, epinions and newegg.com all have numerous positive consumer reviews of this product. The prices are comparable with the Etón FR360.

The number one handheld weather radio is the Oregon Scientific® WR 602. The only power source for this radio is a rechargeable battery pack and it comes with a charging dock and a belt clip. You can choose home or travel mode to extend battery life and it has a signal strength icon with a signal loss indicator. There are 3 levels of messages, though you cannot program your choice of alerts. This weather radio will receive all U.S. Emergency All Hazards warnings and EAS (Emergency Alert System) notifications, warnings and forecasts. You can also use the SAME technology in order to program 9 different locations and it will receive all of the NOAA reports. The pricing on this handheld model will be slightly higher than the other two top-rated weather radios, though it can be found at many of the same retailers. The consumer reviews for this product are positive overall, the biggest downside being its power limitations. But, its small size makes more power options impossible and many customers are drawn to its small size and lightweight body when it comes to fitting it into a backpack or suitcase.

A weather radio can be an invaluable resource during the spring storm season, the late summer hurricane season, late fall ice storms and winter blizzards, though many people only think of getting them when bad weather threatens their area. Plan ahead and be prepared. There is absolutely no substitute for being informed.

Uniden Scanners: Scanners Uniden BC72XLT A review of the laptop

!±8± Uniden Scanners: Scanners Uniden BC72XLT A review of the laptop

Some people need to own a scanner, but others just want one. But with Uniden Scanner is a requirement in many areas. Uniden is a name that you want the scanner would always look for, and it burned my scanner before, I knew I had to take a new one. So I took Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner to replace. The purpose of this review is to you about what information has to offer.

Design

This is a very useful device. Its compact design is specifically for usersto find, easy to access. The size of the device are 2.75''x 1.25''x 4.5''without the antenna has a compact size for a device very useful. It weighs only 5.8 ounces, so you do not have problems, get them nowhere. The beauty of this design is the black-body scanner, which is a nice gesture for a scanner you really want to be finished. NASCAR has a logo, not only add beauty to the device, it is actually a symbol that the scanner isfor optimal coverage of NASCAR. This is an advantage for me because I am a big fan of the sport.

The keyboard is fairly easy to navigate, and is also very intuitive, so you can easily learn how to operate it. Even new users can use the rotation immediately. The LCD has a message in orange backlit and very clear that reading is to manage information on the screen with ease, even in different lighting conditions. The only thing I like to do, not to this device, theAntenna, which is really long, but I think it has something to do with the good reception it has to do, because it is a really good scanner and can cover all the frequencies of the beam. I do not want to compromise that were only the antenna shorter.

Scanning and audio output

It allows me to scan and look for the widest range of frequencies, and everything is very well received. So Uniden scanners are good, but I love this child. The scanner comes with 10 memory presetsBanks, makes searching much easier, as you can separate the channels into 10 groups of 10. You can shoot all the channels, channels of police, ambulance channels, sports channels, weather channels and other channels in their banks. This makes the search much easier for me, especially because I was in tune channels only sports, weather, police and ambulance. But I still get the other channels in other banks save for the future of ease of use.

The Close Call RF CaptureUniden technology has been in this unit, one of the features that have been loved by my previous scanners. It lets you scan quickly through nearby stations, so you can with what is happening in the neighborhood are updated. It 'also easily through the channels with the two second delay with the scan rate for two seconds more to see if this channel is able to crawl to hear something interesting. You also get priority channels, which are made from one channel of each storedof the 10 banks that set the scanning system, for every 2 seconds, so you can stay updated on your favorite channels or important.

The audio output device has a maximum of 490 mW, ideal for a small scanner. The speaker is 8 ohms with a dynamic consumption and a diameter of 32 mm.

Other Features

The scanner has a lot of other features such as the lock-out feature, which is used to bid on specific frequencies, or channels, jumping, six servicesDefault of banks in the scanner, a separate police, fire, emergency, banks, aircraft, ham, marine and weather, keypad lock to prevent accidental changes in navigation, the memory back-up channels and frequencies you also after a power failure, failure, and two power options - AC / DC adapter or AA batteries for flexible use.

Completion

I learned to love Uniden scanners, but when I saw this model, I did not know better. It 'so easy to use, convenient, flexible and veryfunctional - do not want to replace my scanner to any other brand or model in the world. So if you need the service and are a dependable scanner, or you can enjoy NASCAR and want some updates, or you're like me, who wants to keep in touch with current events, Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner, which I recommend for 'use.
